It is not validated for children, neuraxial techniques, tumescent infiltration, intravenous regional anaesthesia or continuous infusions.

Australian Xylocaine product information states that lignocaine dose at one time should not exceed 3 mg/kg for plain solutions or 7 mg/kg with adrenaline, and that maximums are guides requiring individualisation. Because this calculator has no adrenaline input, the lignocaine branch uses the conservative plain-solution ceiling of 3 mg/kg.

Iowa Head and Neck Protocols and LAST-prevention references support similar adult maximum-dose ranges for bupivacaine, mepivacaine and ropivacaine, with concentration conversion of percent solution to mg/mL.
